Core i5-7400T vs Athlon Gold 3150U specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-7400T beats the Athlon Gold 3150U in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Athlon Gold 3150U in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-7400T has significantly more cores than the Athlon Gold 3150U. Indeed, the Core i5-7400T has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Athlon Gold 3150U. But they both have the same number of threads. In terms of clock speed, the Core i5-7400T and Athlon Gold 3150U are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Athlon Gold 3150U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Athlon Gold 3150U outputs less heat than Core i5-7400T thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Core i5-7400T also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-7400T has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
