Core i5-7400 vs Xeon E5-2420 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-7400 is faster than the Xeon E5-2420. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-2420 in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2420 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Core i5-7400 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-7400. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-7400 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2420. Also, the Core i5-7400 has a significantly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-7400 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2420 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-7400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
