Core i5-7400 vs Xeon E3-1220 v5 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E3-1220 v5 performs better than the Core i5-7400. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-7400 in all gaming tests too.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E3-1220 v5 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-7400. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. A Core i5-7400 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E3-1220 v5 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Xeon E3-1220 v5 also has slightly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-7400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
