Core i5-7400 vs Ryzen 7 7730U specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 7730U beats the Core i5-7400 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-7400 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 7730U has significantly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core i5-7400 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-7400. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-7400 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 7730U. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 7730U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 7 7730U outputs less heat than Core i5-7400 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 7730U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-7400. The Ryzen 7 7730U also has significantly more L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-7400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
