Core i5-7400 vs FX-8320 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the FX-8320 beats the Core i5-7400 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-7400 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the FX-8320 has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-8320 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-7400. A Core i5-7400 CPU outputs less heat than a FX-8320 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the FX-8320 has more L2 cache than the Core i5-7400. The FX-8320 also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-7400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
