Core i5-7400 vs FX-8120 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-7400 performs better than the FX-8120. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the FX-8120 in all gaming tests too.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the FX-8120 has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-8120 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-7400. A Core i5-7400 CPU outputs less heat than a FX-8120 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the FX-8120 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-7400. The FX-8120 also has slightly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-7400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
