Core i5-7400 vs Core i3-1005G1 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-7400 beats the Core i3-1005G1 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i3-1005G1 in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-7400 has significantly more cores with 4 cores whereas the Core i3-1005G1 has 2 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the Core i5-7400 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i3-1005G1. Also, the Core i5-7400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i3-1005G1 outputs less heat than Core i5-7400 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i5-7400 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-1005G1. The Core i5-7400 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-7400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
