Core i5-7300HQ vs Core i7-4700MQ benchmarks

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i7-4700MQ is faster than the Core i5-7300HQ. Despite this, the Core i5-7300HQ has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i7-4700MQ has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-7300HQ has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-4700MQ. Also, the Core i5-7300HQ has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-7300HQ CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-4700MQ CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i5-7300HQ has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-4700MQ. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-7300HQ has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
