Core i5-6600K vs Core i9-8950HK benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i9-8950HK beats the Core i5-6600K in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-6600K has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i9-8950HK has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Core i5-6600K that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-6600K. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-6600K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i9-8950HK. Despite this, the Core i9-8950HK has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i9-8950HK outputs less heat than Core i5-6600K thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i9-8950HK has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-6600K. The Core i9-8950HK also has significantly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-6600K has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
