Core i5-6600 vs Core i7-8705G benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-8705G performs better than the Core i5-6600. Despite this, the Core i5-6600 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Core i7-8705G has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-6600 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-8705G. Despite this, the Core i7-8705G has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Core i7-8705G also has slightly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-6600 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
