Core i5-6500 vs Xeon E5-2698 v3 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2698 v3 beats the Core i5-6500 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-6500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2698 v3 has significantly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Core i5-6500 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-6500. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-6500 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2698 v3. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. A Core i5-6500 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2698 v3 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-6500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
