Core i5-6500 vs Core i7-4700MQ specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-6500 performs better than the Core i7-4700MQ. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-4700MQ in all gaming tests too.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Core i7-4700MQ has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-6500 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-4700MQ. Also, the Core i5-6500 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-4700MQ outputs less heat than Core i5-6500 thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i5-6500 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-4700MQ. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-6500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
