Core i5-6400 vs Core i7-8650U benchmarks

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-6400 is faster than the Core i7-8650U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-8650U in all gaming tests too.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Core i7-8650U has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Core i5-6400 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-8650U. Despite this, the Core i7-8650U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-8650U outputs less heat than Core i5-6400 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Core i7-8650U also has slightly more L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-6400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
