Core i5-5257U vs Xeon W3520 benchmarks

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-5257U is faster than the Xeon W3520. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon W3520 in all gaming tests too.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon W3520 has significantly more cores than the Core i5-5257U. Indeed, the Xeon W3520 has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Core i5-5257U. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-5257U has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon W3520. Also, the Core i5-5257U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-5257U CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon W3520 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Xeon W3520 has more L2 cache than the Core i5-5257U. The Xeon W3520 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-5257U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
