Core i5-5200U vs Core i3-N300 specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i3-N300 performs better than the Core i5-5200U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-5200U in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i3-N300 has significantly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Core i5-5200U has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-5200U. Our comparison shows that the Core i5-5200U has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i3-N300. Despite this, the Core i3-N300 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i3-N300 outputs less heat than Core i5-5200U thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i3-N300 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-5200U. The Core i3-N300 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-5200U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
