Core i5-4590 vs Xeon E3-1230 v3 comparison

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Xeon E3-1230 v3 is faster than the Core i5-4590. Despite this, the Core i5-4590 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Xeon E3-1230 v3 has more threads. In terms of clock speed, the Core i5-4590 and Xeon E3-1230 v3 are identical in this regard. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. The Xeon E3-1230 v3 outputs less heat than Core i5-4590 thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-4590 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
