Core i5-3550 vs Xeon X5650 comparison
In our benchmarks, the Xeon X5650 beats the Core i5-3550 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-3550 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon X5650 has significantly more cores than the Core i5-3550. Indeed, the Xeon X5650 has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Core i5-3550. It also has more threads than the Core i5-3550. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-3550 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon X5650. Also, the Core i5-3550 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-3550 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon X5650 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-3550 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
