Core i5-3470 vs Xeon E5-2680 v4 specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2680 v4 performs better than the Core i5-3470. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-3470 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2680 v4 has significantly more cores with 14 cores whereas the Core i5-3470 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-3470. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-3470 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2680 v4. Also, the Core i5-3470 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-3470 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2680 v4 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-3470 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
