Core i5-3450 vs Xeon E3-1220 v3 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-3450 performs better than the Xeon E3-1220 v3. Despite this, the Xeon E3-1220 v3 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. In terms of clock speed, the Core i5-3450 and Xeon E3-1220 v3 are identical in this regard. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. A Core i5-3450 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E3-1220 v3 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-3450 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
