Core i5-3340 vs Xeon E3-1220 comparison

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-3340 is faster than the Xeon E3-1220. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E3-1220 in all gaming tests too.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count and the same number of threads. In terms of clock speed, the Core i5-3340 and Xeon E3-1220 are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Xeon E3-1220 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-3340 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E3-1220 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-3340 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
