Core i5-3320M vs Core i7-5500U comparison

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i7-5500U is faster than the Core i5-3320M. Despite this, the Core i5-3320M has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the Core i5-3320M has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-5500U. Also, the Core i5-3320M has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-5500U outputs less heat than Core i5-3320M thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i7-5500U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-3320M. The Core i7-5500U also has slightly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-3320M has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
