Core i5-13500 vs Core i9-14900HX benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i9-14900HX beats the Core i5-13500 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-13500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i9-14900HX has significantly more cores than the Core i5-13500. Indeed, the Core i9-14900HX has 24 cores compared to 14 cores found in the Core i5-13500. It also has more threads than the Core i5-13500. Our comparison shows that the Core i5-13500 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i9-14900HX. Despite this, the Core i9-14900HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i9-14900HX has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-13500. The Core i9-14900HX also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-13500 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
