Core i5-13500 vs Core i7-12850HX benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i7-12850HX beats the Core i5-13500 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-13500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-12850HX has slightly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Core i5-13500 that has 14 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-13500. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-13500 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-12850HX. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i7-12850HX has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-13500. The Core i7-12850HX also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-13500 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
