Core i5-12500H vs Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-12500H beats the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-12500H has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme that has 8 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-12500H has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme. Despite this, the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme outputs less heat than Core i5-12500H thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-12500H. Despite this, the Core i5-12500H has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-12500H has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
