Core i5-12490F vs Core i7-12800HX specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-12490F is faster than the Core i7-12800HX. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-12800HX in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-12800HX has significantly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Core i5-12490F that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-12490F. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-12490F has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-12800HX. Despite this, the Core i7-12800HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-12800HX outputs less heat than Core i5-12490F thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i5-12490F has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-12800HX. Despite this, the Core i7-12800HX has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Core i5-12490F.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Core i5-12490F has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
