Core i5-1235U vs Core i3-1215U benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-1235U beats the Core i3-1215U in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i3-1215U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-1235U has significantly more cores with 10 cores whereas the Core i3-1215U has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i3-1215U. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-1235U has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i3-1215U. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Core i3-1215U has more L2 cache than the Core i5-1235U. Despite this, the Core i5-1235U has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Core i3-1215U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-1235U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
