Core i5-11400 vs Ryzen 5 5500X3D specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 5500X3D performs better than the Core i5-11400. Despite this, the Core i5-11400 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-11400 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 5 5500X3D. Also, the Core i5-11400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-11400 CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 5 5500X3D CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Ryzen 5 5500X3D also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-11400 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
