Core i5-10400 vs Core i7-8565U benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-10400 is faster than the Core i7-8565U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-8565U in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-10400 has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Core i7-8565U that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-8565U. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-10400 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-8565U. Despite this, the Core i7-8565U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-8565U outputs less heat than Core i5-10400 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i5-10400 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-8565U. The Core i5-10400 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-10400 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
