Core i5-10310U vs Xeon E3-1220 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Core i5-10310U beats the Xeon E3-1220 in overall performance. Despite this, the Xeon E3-1220 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Core i5-10310U has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E3-1220 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-10310U. Despite this, the Core i5-10310U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-10310U CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E3-1220 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-10310U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
