Core i3-9100 vs Ryzen 5 7520U benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 5 7520U beats the Core i3-9100 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i3-9100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Ryzen 5 7520U has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i3-9100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 5 7520U. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 7520U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 7520U outputs less heat than Core i3-9100 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 7520U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-9100. Despite this, the Core i3-9100 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 7520U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i3-9100 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
