Core i3-9100 vs Core i5-12400F benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-12400F beats the Core i3-9100 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i3-9100 in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-12400F has significantly more cores than the Core i3-9100. Indeed, the Core i5-12400F has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Core i3-9100. It also has more threads than the Core i3-9100. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-9100 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-12400F. Despite this, the Core i5-12400F has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i3-9100 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
