Core i3-8100 vs Xeon E5-620 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-620 performs better than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Xeon E5-620 has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Core i3-8100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-620. Also, the Core i3-8100 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i3-8100 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-620 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i3-8100 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Xeon E5-620. The Core i3-8100 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i3-8100 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
