Core i3-8100 vs Xeon E5-1620 v3 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-1620 v3 performs better than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Xeon E5-1620 v3 has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-8100 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-1620 v3. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. A Core i3-8100 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-1620 v3 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i3-8100 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
