Core i3-8100 vs Xeon E3-1231 v3 comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E3-1231 v3 performs better than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Xeon E3-1231 v3 has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-8100 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E3-1231 v3. Despite this, the Xeon E3-1231 v3 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i3-8100 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E3-1231 v3 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i3-8100 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
