Core i3-8100 vs Xeon E3-1230 V2 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E3-1230 V2 performs better than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Xeon E3-1230 V2 has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Core i3-8100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E3-1230 V2. The data shows that both these CPUs have same sized L2 caches. The Xeon E3-1230 V2 also has slightly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i3-8100 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
