Core i3-8100 vs Core i7-6820HQ specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i3-8100 is faster than the Core i7-6820HQ. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-6820HQ in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i7-6820HQ has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-8100 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-6820HQ. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. The Core i7-6820HQ outputs less heat than Core i3-8100 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i3-8100 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
