Core i3-7100 vs FX-8300 comparison

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the FX-8300 is faster than the Core i3-7100. Despite this, the Core i3-7100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the FX-8300 has significantly more cores than the Core i3-7100. Indeed, the FX-8300 has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Core i3-7100. It also has more threads than the Core i3-7100. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i3-7100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the FX-8300. A Core i3-7100 CPU outputs less heat than a FX-8300 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-8300 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-7100. The FX-8300 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i3-7100 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
