Core i3-5005U vs Celeron G550 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i3-5005U performs better than the Celeron G550. Despite this, the Celeron G550 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i3-5005U has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Celeron G550 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i3-5005U. A Core i3-5005U CPU outputs less heat than a Celeron G550 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Celeron G550 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i3-5005U. Despite this, the Core i3-5005U has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Celeron G550.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i3-5005U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
