Core i3-4030U vs A9-9420 benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the Core i3-4030U beats the A9-9420 in overall performance. Despite this, the A9-9420 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Core i3-4030U has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the A9-9420 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i3-4030U. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i3-4030U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
