Core i3-10300 vs Core i5-8500 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-8500 performs better than the Core i3-10300. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i3-10300 in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-8500 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Core i3-10300 has 4 cores. Despite this, the Core i3-10300 has more threads than the Core i5-8500. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-10300 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8500. Also, the Core i3-10300 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Core i5-8500 has more L2 cache than the Core i3-10300. The Core i5-8500 also has slightly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i3-10300 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
