Core i3-10100 vs Core i5-9400 benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-9400 is faster than the Core i3-10100. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i3-10100 in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-9400 has significantly more cores than the Core i3-10100. Indeed, the Core i5-9400 has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Core i3-10100. Despite this, the Core i3-10100 has more threads than the Core i5-9400. Our comparison shows that the Core i3-10100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-9400. Also, the Core i3-10100 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i5-9400 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-10100. The Core i5-9400 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i3-10100 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
