A8-5550M vs Pentium B940 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Pentium B940 is faster than the A8-5550M. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the A8-5550M in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the A8-5550M has significantly more cores with 4 cores whereas the Pentium B940 has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Pentium B940. With our hardware info, we find that the A8-5550M has a slightly higher clock speed than the Pentium B940. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the A8-5550M has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
