A6-6400K vs Core 2 Duo E8500 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the A6-6400K performs better than the Core 2 Duo E8500. Despite this, the Core 2 Duo E8500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core 2 Duo E8500 has significantly more cores with 2 cores compared to the A6-6400K that has 1 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the A6-6400K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core 2 Duo E8500. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core 2 Duo E8500 has significantly more L2 cache than the A6-6400K
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the A6-6400K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
